Actor takes on might of Marlon Brando
AN actor will be making his debut for a Stratford drama group this week by taking on one of the most challenging roles in theatre.
Will Sharpe makes his debut with Second Thoughts Drama Group when he plays the role of Stanley in this week’s productionof Tennesse Williams powerful drama, A Streetcar Named Desire.
The play was made famous by its 1951 film version starring Marlon Brando and Vivien Leigh and is also currently enjoying a revival in London’s West End where it has been nominated in the Evening Standard Awards.
Will, however, is no stranger to Stratford audiences as he has appeared in a number of productions with the Shakespeare Institute Players including the title role in Henry V and his own production of Julius Caesar in which he played Mark Antony, a role also played by Brando.
Blanche Dubois is being played by Anne Bowen who appeared in Second Thoughts’ award-winning production of Oscar Wilde’s An Ideal Husband, whose director, Deborah Stead, is also directing Streetcar.
The role of Mitch is being taken by Phoenix Players’ director David Mears, whilst the card-playing Steve is played by Second Thoughts’ veteran, Steve Farr.
The play runs at the Civic Hall in Stratford from Wednesday November 4 to Saturday November 7 at 7.30pm. Tickets (£9.50 £7.50 concessions and £5 for under 18s) are available in person at the Civic Hall box office, call 01789 207100, or at the door.
